Resting Lady Face
by Lyssa Lovejoy
She sits barefoot, shoulders heavy, gaze steady. Her annoyance is not hidden—it is worn openly, defiantly. She has heard the endless commands: Smile. Be softer. Be agreeable. But here, she resists.
This painting asks: when a woman chooses stillness over performance, what do we see? Is she uninterested, rebellious, exhausted, or free?
Part of the Be a Lady series, Resting Lady Face invites viewers to confront their own definitions of what it means “to be a lady,” and challenges the weight of expectation pressed upon women throughout history.
